In a part of The Alchemist’s Handbook eBook Free, we read:
The old woman guided the boy to a room behind her house. This room was separated from the living room by a colorful gingham curtain. The room contained a table, an image of the Sacred Heart of Christ, and two chairs. The old woman sat down and asked the young man to sit down too. Then he took both of the boy’s hands in his hands and began to pray slowly.
His way of praying was similar to the prayer of Gypsies. During his trip, the young man had the experience of dealing with gypsies. They were also always traveling, with the difference that they did not have a herd. People used to say that gypsies spend their lives playing pranks on this and that. They were said to be in cahoots with the devil, abducting children, taking them to their hiding places, and enslaving them. As a child, he was always scared to death that the gypsies would steal him, and when the old woman took his hands in hers, that childhood fear came back to him.
To cheer himself up, he thought that the old woman had a picture of the Sacred Heart of Christ in her room. He did not want his hands to shake and his fear to be revealed to the old woman. For this reason, he recited the “Our Father” prayer in his heart.
The old woman, who kept her eyes on the boy’s hands, said, “It’s very interesting,” and then she became silent.
The boy was getting more and more confused. Her hands started shaking and the old woman felt this shaking. The boy quickly withdrew his hands.
He regretted coming there and said: “I didn’t come here for you to read my palm.” For a moment, he thought of paying the old woman’s fee and leaving the place without getting caught. He was overestimating the dream he had seen twice.
